Bridging Art & Systems Engineering: Constellation Live at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

We recently had the privilege of hosting synth legend Ernesto Romeo (Klauss) alongside two extraordinary movement artists for a live performance and interview session at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.

This wasn’t just a concert—it was a multi-sensory experience inspired by 20 curated artworks from the museum. Live analog synthesis, real-time sound design, and generative visual projections were bound together in a fully synchronized, interactive ecosystem powered by our wearable tech platform, Constellation.

Seeing Ernesto and the performers push our technology to its absolute limits in a live setting is a dream come true.

The Art of Motion-Controlled Expression

In live performance, technology should serve the art—never get in its way. For a wearable instrument to feel like a true physical extension of the body, the feedback loop between gesture, sound, and visual response must feel instantaneous.

During the performance, wearable Satellites were deployed simultaneously across three performers, each orchestrating a distinct layer of the show in real time:

  • Movement to Visuals: One dancer controlled generative visual projections inspired by the museum’s artwork.
  • Movement to Synthesis: A second dancer directly modulated analog synthesizer parameters through physical motion.
  • Live Electronic Modulation: Ernesto Romeo modulated synthesizer parameters via his own Satellite alongside his live performance rig.

The Engineering Behind Instant Response

Making three concurrent nodes interact effortlessly with both light and sound presented a complex technical challenge. Standard consumer protocols like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) are designed for data volume rather than microsecond speed, causing packet collisions and unpredictable micro-delays when multiple sensors stream data at once.

To overcome this, MJP Audio Designs—engineered powered by Axioma Tech Solutions—built a custom wireless architecture focused on minimal, deterministic latency.

Telemetry from the performers’ Satellites was streamed wirelessly to the central Ground Central hub, which processed the incoming state updates and routed data via its MIDI DIN-5 output directly into a hardware MIDI Thru-box. This split the signals simultaneously to drive the visual control PC and a Nord keyboard with imperceptible end-to-end latency.
